FAQs

  • Absolutely! While I specialize in working with first responders and their spouses, I am equipped and trained to treat adults (18+) who are experiencing anxiety and past trauma.

  • The short and simple answer is yes; our therapist accepts Anthem, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and Aetna insurance. However, please note that when using insurance to pay for sessions; the sessions must be deemed medically necessary, a mental health diagnosis is required, and the insurance company will receive information regarding sessions as necessary for payment processing. This can substantially limit the number of sessions, the treatments used, and/or the content covered in sessions. In addition, some insurance plans require you to pay an out-of-pocket deductible; not always, but in some instances, the price of sessions may actually end up being higher than the self-pay rate.

  • Self-pay sessions are not regulated by insurance companies. This means they do not require medical necessity or a diagnosis which provides flexibility in the content discussed in sessions, the treatment modalities which can be used, length of each individual session, and length of treatment. This also allows individuals to seek counseling sessions for different life events/circumstances which may be causing some distress but do not rise to the level of a mental illness.  In addition, there is also a greater degree of confidentiality as no information is sent to your insurance company or outside payor. Lastly, this option allows you the freedom to choose the provider who is best equipped to address your needs as opposed to limiting you to a provider who is paneled with your insurance.

  • The first session will be an introductory session which will allow both of us to get to know each other a little better and make sure we are a good fit to keep moving forward together. We will review intake paperwork and practice policies. I will ask an array of questions to gain insight into your presenting concern, goals for therapy, and treatment history. I also ensure time for you to ask any questions you may have to make sure I am the right therapist for you.

  • That is no problem at all. Research shows that the perceived quality of relationship between the therapist and client is one of the most influential aspects in determining the outcome of therapy. Due to this, our therapist understands the importance of the therapeutic relationship and that not every therapist is the right fit for every client. With that, if at the end of the first (or any) session you no longer believe our therapist is the right fit for you, simply speak with the therapist about this and they will provide you with some referrals.
